Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is responsible for preparing the sanctuary for the worship service. This includes: placement and distribution of flowers, changing paraments to correct liturgical color, filling altar candles and collection and assisting with the communion ware cleanup.
Business Opportunity
The purpose of the Business Opportunity Committee is to utilize the assets of the church to benefit the community and the ongoing work of the church.
Current Activities:
- Ongoing rental and community use of the Grove and Social Hall.
- Restoration and ongoing residential rental of the Church House.
- Restoration of the Baseball Field by the Schuylkill Valley Youth Baseball League.
Capital Campaign
The Capital Campaign Committee determines the financial ability and spiritual willingness of the congregation to support the major building renovations and expansion projects. The campaign continues with interesting ongoing initiatives.
Community Concerns
The Community Concerns Committee provides opportunities for service in community organizations as well as participation in the Schuylkill Valley Food Pantry. The food ministry for the hungry in the Reading area is part of their work.
Endowment
The Endowment Committee is appointed by Consistory as the custodian of the Endowment Fund. The fund is established to extend the mission and ministry of the congregation beyond the programs already in the annual budget.
Family Activities
The Family Activities Committee encourages that individuals create and promote family-related activities and coordinate their plans through the Consistory.
Fund-Raising
The Fund-Raising Committee plans and implements creative fund-raising activities to support the capital expenditures of the church. A portion of the money raised is donated to community organizations.
Kitchen
The Kitchen Committee maintains that the kitchen is in good working order and stocked with basic supplies to support planned meal activities.
Leisure Living
Members of Bern Church have formed a partnership with residents of Berks Leisure Living. Our members send cards and presents, or visits their "friend" at Berks Leisure. We have had very positive feedback from this program. If you would like the name of a resident, please see Chairperson, Sue Vituszynski.
Lunch Bunch
The Birthday Lunch Bunch will gather on the 3rd Thursday of each month to celebrate those in our congregation who are 80 and over and have a birthday that month.
Prayer Chain
The Prayer Chain unites our congregation in prayer and provides an opportunity to express concerns for our church family and friends in times of need.
Property
The Property Committee is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the maintenance of the church.
Safety & Security
Stewardship
The Stewardship Committee implements educational programs and prepares the annual budget with input from all of the church organizations.
Sunshine
The Sunshine Committee shares God's love by giving each of the members of our congregation a sense of our caring and concern and works to brighten the days for our home-bound members.
Worship & Music
The Worship and Music Committee coordinates the worship and music programs of the church and plans for creative worship experiences.
Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry Committee provides opportunities for Christian education, fellowship and community service to all children and youth in the church. Activities include but are not limited to traditional Sunday School classes, social activities and participation in Community Concerns and other service opportunities.
