Committees

The Activities Committee plans and coordinates a variety of fellowship programs for all members of the church family.

The Altar Guild is responsible for preparing the sanctuary for the worship service. This includes: placement and distribution of flowers, changing paraments to correct liturgical color, filling altar candles and collection and assisting with the communion ware cleanup.

The Building Committee plans, evaluates, and coordinates the major building renovations and facility expansion projects. Responsibilities also include providing oversight of the construction activities.

The Capital Campaign Committee determines the financial ability and spiritual willingness of the congregation to support the major building renovations and expansion projects. The campaign continues with interesting ongoing initiatives.

The Christian Education Committee works to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the ministry of Christian education that has always been a priority in our church history. Today, we provide quality instruction in our Sunday School classes and Teen Discussion.

The Community Concerns Committee provides opportunities for service in community organizations. The food ministry for the hungry in the Reading area is part of their work.

The Fund Raising Committee plans and implements creative fund raising activities to support the capital expenditures of the church. A portion of the money raised is donated to community organizations.

The Good News Committee provides evangelistic outreach to the community of Bern Reformed UCC. We welcome visitors to our church and plan orientation sessions for the new members. The ministry explores new innovative ideas to expand the Bern UCC congregation.

The Kitchen Committee maintains the kitchen stocks it with basic supplies to support planned meal activities.

The Prayer Chain unites our congregation in prayer and provides an opportunity to express concerns for our church family and friends in times of need.

The Property Committee is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the maintenance of the church.

The Stewardship Committee implements educational programs and prepares the annual budget with input from all of the church organizations.

The Sunshine Committee shares God's love by giving each of the members of our congregation a sense of our caring and concern and works to brighten the days for our home-bound members.

The Worship and Music Committee coordinates the worship and music programs of the church and plans for creative worship experiences.

The Youth Fellowship Committee provides opportunities for our teenage members to participate in volunteer and fellowship events, including summer work camps, retreats and social activities.
