Bern Reformed United Church of Christ

On Sunday, June 30, the congregations of Bern Reformed UCC and Bern Evangelical Lutheran Churches joined together in worship in the sanctuary of this church, the church they built together exactly 100 years ago. The two churches once committed to a Union Congregation in 1837 and remained together for 162 years until their dissolution in 1997.

This union worship service included a narrated slide presentation, tracing the history from the origins of the Protestant Reformation in 1517, through the exodus from their homelands in the Palatinate Region of Germany and Switzerland, then through England to Pennsylvania in the early 1700’s. To some it may sound like Ancestry.com; for it may surprise you to find a relative or two, German or Swiss, Reformed or Lutheran, as innumerable people have traced their family origins in the annals and/or the graveyard of this, one of the first, Protestant Churches in America.
